Great River B & B The property is a pioneer Swedish stone cottage built in 1869 by the co-founder of the village of Stockholm. From our large screened in porch we offer peace and solitude on 43 acres of lawn, woods, and open meadow over looking Lake Pepin (the Mississippi River). The two- story cottage as shown here is rented for the exclusive use of only one party (one or two people only) ensuring absolute privacy. When we have guests, we stay at our nearby second home, and return in the morning to prepare a light breakfast if desired. Maidenwood is a wedding, reception and event center with overnight accommodations set in the countryside between Maiden Rock and Stockholm. A 48 x 53 foot barn, newly finished inside with white-washed pine, is the focal point on four acres of lawn, perennial gardens, towering oaks, pine, spruce and flowering trees. Overnight guests also have access to an additional 76 acres of woods and tallgrass prairie threaded with walking trails. Weddings can be held at various lovely sites--the Towering Oak Circle,the Meadowside, the Lake Overlook, the Stone Circle and other locations. Lighted trees and scattered tables and chairs invite guests to explore the grounds and a fire circle encourages lingering by the event barn. Plenty of parking is available and buses can be arranged for groups. Owner Deborah Hansen is available to help engaged couples and their families plan their weddings and receptions using the finest local resources for flowers, food, photography and decor. Deb also rents crystal, silver, flatware, vintage plates and linens for such additional occasions as wedding and baby showers, bridal luncheons, garden parties, tea parties, memorial services and reunions. In the charming "Bridal Suite," brides can dress for the occasion and watch from a second-floor picture window as guests arrive below. When festivities are over, bride and groom can simply retreat to their suite for the night and have a simply delicious breakfast waiting in the morning. The attractive barn, with lots of natural light and a center chandelier, is also a great space for the Cameo Life Stories writing workshops conducted by Deborah Hansen, author of the book Cameo Life Stories Writing Guide for Everywoman.
