FRESH ART TOUR
Twice each year, the finest studios and galleries of Wisconsin’s Pierce and Pepin Counties celebrate our story and the beauty of this place we call home.
We invite you to stop by!
On this self-guided tour of our backroads and byways, you will experience the same inspirations that prompted an artistic migration a generation ago.
An art colony forms spontaneously. It may begin with someone looking for a simpler life, and another artist comes along to help with the move and finds the area attractive. In the 1970’s , artists and friends from the Twin Cities discovered the nearly abandoned village of Stockholm, Wisconsin. Big brick homes and old wooden farmhouses offered affordable housing and the young artists were thrilled to find such a beautiful place to make their own. Over the years one followed another, building a creative community of painters, potters, sculptors, photographers and more.
Fast forward forty years and enough creative people have been drawn to the area to constitute an actual artist’s colony. The Fresh Art Tour, now in its twenty first year, is one way that these artists reach out to the greater community and share their talents. The area also hosts the annual Stockholm Art Fair and an abundance of art galleries and other creative venues.
Tour maps can be found at many sites around western WI and eastern MN, a downloadable map is available at www.freshart.org.
